Douglas DC-6: Lira Maker

Born just after the end of WW2, the long defunct LAI airline was the first Italian to connect, with DC-6s, Italy with the United States. They couldn’t have chosen a better aircraft to do it.

Wonderfully dynamic poster, there was a time when aircraft sold tickets.

Artist: Fiore Amieto.

sky blue with daisies

Let’s not kid ourselves. Giving up sugar, donuts, french fries, soda, coffee, donuts, bread, pizza, fast food, ice cream, donuts… it all sucks.  I’ve actually given up NONE of those things… but I have tried hard to cut back.  It’s all I can handle.  An Apple Empanada from Taco Bell is about as exciting as my life gets!  I’m much too weak to say never.

But sugar… I’ve really got to get serious about eating less of it.  Middle age has it’s way of telling you that.  I was recently shocked when I started paying attention to all sugar i was eating.  And that was just in my yogurt and my oatmeal!   And how fun is yogurt and oatmeal anyway?? If i have to eat that every day, then why I might as well get a donut!!

Frosted.

But instead of giving up all sensibility for a daily chocolate glazed…

2014: More than just a toned tush!

Mastering Joy ...

This weekend I went to church with a new friend. It was different from the church I call home and at first I felt uneasy. I couldn’t find my voice to sing the songs, I couldn’t anticipate the order of the service and with all the people watching I wasn’t sure I would even get anything out of the message. It reminded me of the few Christmases we spent at our grandparents and how I would worry that Santa wouldn’t know where to find me. Would God find me here or would it just be something I could cross off my list (went to church today-check!)?

But by the end of the service I was singing the songs, smiling and feeling rather silly. Because OF COURSE He found me. How could I doubt it? He is everywhere and true to form addressed the unease that had been stirring around in…

Coffee Lover_Ignacio Algarin

How can we connect art and coffee?

I bumped into this talent artist while I was organizing one of the Coffee Art Project. His name is Ignacio Algarin, from Sevilla, Spain.

I would like to be focused specifically in one of his on going project.

He has been working on “Mini Cafes Project” which includes a different series of coffee cups drawn on paper and colored with watercolors.

It is spectacular how the mini coffee cups are different among each other and how intensely the colors stick out from the paper.

Each little cup is accompanied by a sentence which forms a sorts of diary. If putting it together  tells how time  has passed , and it is a way of leaving the unity of the work as a trace of that time. The memories of a coffee, a memory of good and bad times which a human being goes…

2014 – 50 week photo project

PiratedGypsy

I spend a lot of time taking pictures of what I see. In 2014 I am going to do to a photo project.  This project would be a 52 week project, but I wasnt sure what the theme would be until today.  Today I was inspired.  In the following 50 weeks, I will be posting one mini-set a week, taken that week.

This week – today – I took my wonderful two fluffy dogs to the Beach to see what we could see.

After the cold few weeks we just experienced, Lake Ontario was frozen so far out, the open water was barely visible on the horizon.

RITZ Country Fried Ribs with Zesty Buttermilk Dressing #RITZNYBLITZ

Behind The Shades...

Image

I almost never fry food. It’s not that I don’t like fried food, everyone does. (It’s just that I am not very good at frying anything other than a couple of eggs and if you have seen any of my recent egg flipping VINE videos you may even question whether I can do that correctly. When it comes to Ribs, I am low & slow cook in the oven and then eat them with sauce all over your fingers & face kind of guy. So the concept of RITZ Country Fried Ribs both scared me a little & confused me…a lot.

Now when RITZ decided to get involved with the Big Game coming to New York City in the first weekend of February, they partnered with various iconic restaurants in the New York area and asked them, like they did with the Allrecipes Allstars, to come up with a spin…
